SECOND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE / SEMINAR ON THE HISTORY OF EARLY CHRISTIANITY IN INDIA

(with parallel Developments in other parts of Asia)

(14th – 17th January 2007, Chennai, India)

 

         The First International Conference on the History of Early Christianity in India organized from 13th –17th  August, 2005 at New York with the participation of the Christhava Tamilkoil  was a resounding success. In the Business Session of the Conference held on 16th August, the delegates and participants unanimously decided to organize the Second International Conference in India. It was also decided to start an International Centre for the Study of Christianity in India in Chennai with a view to organize  all the future Conferences on the above theme in various countries. After the Conference was over, the Organizing Committee met  on  24-9-2005 at the premises of the Institute of Asian Studies  and unanimously decided to organize the Second International Conference in Chennai from 14th -17th January 2007. The theme of the Conference shall be  The History of Early Christianity in India - with Parallel Developments in Other Parts of Asia (including the Middle East). A Working Committee comprising of the following persons have been constituted  to undertake the preliminary arrangements for this important international meet.

         The Working Committee met on 26-11-2005 and discussed about the various aspects of the Second Conference. It has been decided to organize the Conference in a very massive way with the participation of all the churches of Indian soil irrespective of their denominational affiliations with a view to establish the Christian solidarity in this country. It is suggested that different denominations of Christianity and Christian Organizations may be included as partners of the Conference. A sub-committee has been constituted to interact with like-minded Christian organizations and if necessary to arrange for the meeting of the various Church leaders and explain the salient features of this international event.  It is also resolved to arrange varieties of cultural programmes basing on Christian theme and Indian ethos.

 

      The Working Committee invites scholars and organizations to participate in this programme. Scholars who are interested to present research papers may contact the Conference co-ordinator at the earliest. They are requested to suggest topics on the above broad theme with a short synopsis of their research papers. The registration fee for the foreign delegates and observers shall be US $ 100 and they are eligible for accommodation, food , local transportation, post-conference tour etc., The Christian Organizations who wish to become  partners of this International Programme also may contact :
