Aims & methods

Vision

The vision of the VCDS:

To strive for establishing a classless, casteless and secular society.

Aims

The aims of the VCDS are:

  • To work with the Dalits, who have been deprived of their privileges and rights and to create in them a feeling of self-respect, dignity and self-confidence.
  • To free them from the cruelty of the caste and religious fanatics, to release them from slavery and from the clutches of the politicians and multinational companies.
  • To work among the neglected children, women, youth, workers and the handicapped and to save them from exploitation and bondage.

Methods

The methods of the VCDS include the following:

  • Education: People must have a critical understanding of their life situation through action reflection process. It includes the usual awareness raising pedagogical methodology such as literacy classes, issue-based agitation, Panchayat Raj (village council) education, legal orientation, documentation, visiting projects and educational tours.
  • Training: Training qualifies people to get correct perspective and skills to tackle the issues and increases the ability to find solutions to their problems in a professional way. It gives them a sense of self-respect, self-worth, self-dignity and self-confidence. It provides them with opportunities to build capacity to manage themselves independently. It leads them to empowerment and economic and social freedom.
  • Organisation: Organisation means not only the individuals but all stake holders who are affected by the issues in order to put their heads together and form their organisation for a united front to face the challenges posted to them by the oppressive forces and get their demands succeeded.
